I can’t remember when I took a vacation and so I would never save up for one.
Do both. You are saving money while you are saving money!
Now days saving for a vacation is fairly easy. Main reason is because we have so many options to choose from, to where we are going to vacation. Also you know there are many travel agencies that allow you to set up a payment plan, as long as it paid off before the trip matures. Now I'm sure there are finance fees but the most popular trips have become all inclusive ones. Meaning everything is included. You flight, hotel, meals, alcohol, snacks, usually you're responsible for additional expenditures, like souvenirs and gratuities. You might have to pay for some Uber or taxi rides too. If you can't go this route, set up a high interest savings account. Be disaplained and make sure you add to that account every week, or day if possible. Once you determine how much your trip will cost, have a promise with yourself that you're going on X vacation and save, save , save. Before you know it you're off to your destination. I worked with a couple who saved their change, every year, for the soul purposes of a vacation. Good luck!!
So my ole lady and I take half of our paycheck and put it into a joint account and that pays all the bills and then whatever is left just stays in there. So it will add up over time to have the extra money for bills that we couldn’t pay or for money to take our kids places and stuff like that.
