Couponing, couponing, couponing. Also use fetch (receipt scanning app for points)! I keep a look out for the products that are worth big points and try to correlate them to the coupons I use. And yes, it’s legit. I’ve cashed out before no problem. Definitely a longer reward system, but I it’s a mindless kinda hobby I guess you can say. But a reward is a reward nonetheless.

I used to think about the things we needed, but now I've learned to first think about the things we have. Depending on the ages of your children, you could offer evening and weekend childcare. Take them to the park, or even a fun picnic in the yard. Set-up a tent and play hide and seek. If you have teens they can help and work toward a family goal. Even if you do it a couple of nights a week or every other weekend, it can really add up. I've price checked groceries for years to get the best deals. As "Head of Household" the tax credit is excellent, especially with 5 children. There's non-profit organizations that will prepare your taxes for you for free.
