Most people assume hitting 300,000 miles is reserved for Toyota Camrys and Honda Civics. However, you'll be surprised that there are vehicles many don't think of when it comes to getting such a level of mileage.

"The biggest misconception around cars hitting 300,000 miles is that it comes down to the brand," said Matt Clamp, automotive specialist at Scrap Car Comparison. "The reality is that maintenance is the biggest factor."

Clamp works with end-of-life vehicles daily, giving him a very clear view of which cars last and which ones die early. According to him, the vehicles that make it to 300,000 miles are almost always serviced every 5,000 to 8,000 miles.

Here are the cars from 2015 to 2020 that almost always reach 300,000 miles and above with proper care and maintenance.

The Audi A4 and A6, especially diesel versions, are built for steady, long-distance driving.

"The engines are designed to sit comfortably at speed without being pushed too hard, so you don't get the same level of wear as constant stop-start driving," Clamp said.

Cars that spend more time on highways tend to last longer than those stuck in stop-and-go traffic, where engines and transmissions strain more.

There's a reason the E-Class has long been the go-to vehicle for chauffeur fleets in many parts of the world.

"They tend to hold up well over time, as long as they're serviced regularly and properly," Clamp said.

That combination of durability and comfort makes the Benz E-class a strong candidate for drivers aiming to push past 300,000 miles.

When cars age, it's not just the engine that matters. Suspension and other components tend to wear faster.

"At higher mileage, it's often things like suspension, mounts, and electronics that start to go," he said. "Volvos generally hold up better here, which is why we see more of them make it further before being scrapped."

VW Passat is another car Clamp thinks will easily hit 300,000 miles provided that it's properly looked after.

"Maintenance is a big advantage, as parts are easy to get and they are relatively affordable. This is a huge reason why these cars end up lasting longer than others, because they're affordable to maintain."
