Shopping for new items for your wardrobe online can be a time-saver, but it's important to be strategic about it. Thanks to dynamic pricing, you'll often see different prices from day to day, and even from hour to hour. That's because retailers adjust product prices in real-time based on demand, inventory and market trends.

A study last year by Smartproxy analyzed the cost of fashion items over a six-week period across major retailers to find price trends. It found that clothing prices tend to fluctuate more than products in other categories.

"As automated price adjustment tools become increasingly common across various e-commerce platforms, the fashion industry stands out as a frontrunner, leveraging dynamic pricing strategies with remarkable sophistication," said Vaidotas Juknys, head of commerce at Smartproxy, in a press release.

"This sector has consistently demonstrated its ability to adapt pricing in real-time, responding to fluctuations in demand, inventory levels and seasonal trends more effectively than many other industries," he continued. "According to our research, the fashion industry demonstrates up to 76% higher dynamic pricing scores than electronics, beauty or multi-category industries."

Based on the analysis, these are the best days -- and worst days -- to shop for clothes online.

The Smartproxy study found that clothing prices were the lowest on Saturday, with the best prices available during the early morning hours. You can also find low prices on Friday afternoon. The early morning on Monday and anytime on Sunday are also great times to shop if you want to score low prices.

Tuesday has the highest average prices, with clothing prices peaking on Tuesday afternoon. The next most-expensive time to shop is Monday morning.

Being strategic about when you shop is one way to save on clothing, but to save even more, consider integrating some of these other tips as well.

  • Shop at online discount stores, like Marshalls and T.J. Maxx.

  • Search for coupon codes before making any purchases.

  • Sign up for emails to be notified about sales at your favorite retailers.

  • Shop using discounted gift cards.

  • Comparison shop for similar items on other sites.
