Costco Buys That Can Replace Expensive Monthly Subscriptions

Costco is known for its money-saving opportunities, but how much can you really save when you replace expensive monthly subscriptions with items from Costco? We searched the site and dug into the deals to find out.

In addition to the savings we list here, Costco also offers deals on tires, rental cars, travel, health services, home security systems and cellphones through T-Mobile and AT&T, among others. If you’re a Costco member, it pays to check out its deals and benefits as you shop around for these products and services.

Now, let’s get into some subscriptions to see how much you could be saving by switching to Costco buys.

The Best Costco Buys for the Money Right Now

Costco offers a variety of prepared meals priced per pound. Prices on its website are estimates, but the Kirkland Signature Stuffed Bell Peppers with Ground Beef & Rice comes with six peppers and breaks down to $3.50 per serving. The Chicken Street Taco Kit comes with 12 taco shells, so at two tacos per person, the cost breaks down to $2.98 per serving. Meal delivery kits, according to Serious Eats, cost between $3 and $14.23 per portion. Some of these come ready to eat while others need to be prepared and cooked.

Snack box subscriptions cost between $15 and $44.99, according to My Subscription Addiction. While a snack box can be an exciting treat with fun surprises, there’s no guarantee you’ll love everything that comes in it. When you swap a snack box subscription with Costco snacks, you can save money and make sure you’ll eat it all.

You can even make your own snack boxes by buying boxes of individually packaged snacks and  putting items in a fun package. Try Dizzilicious Mini Rice Cake Bites, Kirkland Signature Organic Fruit and Vegetable Pouches and That’s it Mini Fruit Bars to start! Total cost for all three items is $47.63, just above what it costs for one of the higher priced snack subscriptions.

For $199, you can have Jeni’s Ice Cream delivered to your door. The three-month subscription sends four pints of ice cream each month, often in flavors not yet available for sale. This is a great idea for ice cream lovers, but it can get expensive — $16.50 per pint.

Costco, on the other hand, stocks Kirkland Signature Super Premium Vanilla Ice Cream at just $14.74 for an entire gallon (equal to eight pints). Granted, vanilla may not be the most exciting ice cream flavor, but with the money you save, you can buy tons of toppings to customize your bowl or cone.

Some wellness smoothies cost $9.99 per bottle with some benefits, like free shipping, for signing up for a subscription, but at Costco, you can get eight bottles of Pressed Juicery Wellness Smoothies for just $19.28. With this deal, you can fuel your body without draining your wallet.
