Here’s a look at some household furniture staples that you should buy at Costco rather than IKEA — even if it means passing up the Swedish meatballs.

1. 6-Seat Sectional
If you’re looking to create an inviting space to host, a sectional can be a fantastic piece. However, because of how large sectionals are, they can get quite pricey. At Costco, you can get a Thomasville Tisdale Modular Sectional with six seats for $1,799. The ottoman also works as storage, so you can keep your living room tidy easily.

At IKEA, the most affordable six-seat sectional is the KIVIK Sectional 6-Seat, which is $2,099. The KIVIK also does not provide any extra storage like the Thomasville Tisdale does.
2. Credenza
A credenza can be a statement piece that also provides ample storage. Usually stored in a hallway or near the television, these are highly used items. At IKEA, a 63” wide sideboard credenza will cost you $599. At Costco, you can get a 72” accent console for $399.99. That’s more space for $200 less than the IKEA price.

The right area rug can really tie a room together. At Costco, you can get a
7-foot-10-inch-by-9-foot-10-inch rug for a living room for $189.99. Their Nourison Messina area rug is easy to clean and comes in a calming ivory color. At IKEA, the ONSEVIG rug is the same size, but will cost nearly a third again at $249.99. Though the patterns differ slightly, you can’t argue with the major price win for Costco.
4. Floor Lamp
A lamp is essential for any space and both Costco and IKEA provide stylish options, but Costco once again wins in value. The Everett Downbridge floor lamp is made of black stainless steel and costs $119.99. The IKEA version of this piece—the SKOTTORP / SKAFTET floor lamp—is also made of steel but will cost more at $144.98.
5. Storage Baskets
Woven baskets can make your place look put-together while covertly storing loose odds and ends. At Costco, you can get four woven storage baskets for $41.99. At IKEA, just one of these woven baskets will cost $27.99. Though the IKEA option is slightly larger, it still doesn’t really make up for the large gap in price.
6. Garment Rack
These are great for a space that might not have a proper closet or one large enough to hold what you need it to. A 48-by-18-by-75.5 garment rack with adjustable shelves for shoes and accessories will cost you $99.99 at Costco. At IKEA, a slightly shorter garment rack with the same number of shelves costs $150.
