Saratoga, California, ranked as the richest retirement town in America for the second consecutive year.
Hawaii placed two communities in the top 10.

Median household income: $250,000
Saratoga retained its position as the richest retirement town in America. More than one-quarter of residents are age 65 or older.
2. Rancho Palos Verdes, California
Median household income: $179,623
Rancho Palos Verdes ranked fourth nationally and was one of only three West Coast communities with a median household income above $170,000.
3. Bainbridge Island, Washington
Median household income: $172,188
Bainbridge Island was the highest-ranked Washington community in the study. More than 27% of residents are age 65 or older.
4. Laguna Beach, California
Median household income: $143,843
Laguna Beach combined a median household income above $143,000 with a senior population that exceeds 30% of residents.
5. Cerritos, California
Median household income: $135,439
Cerritos ranked 13th nationally and reported a median household income above $135,000.
6. Beverly Hills, California
Median household income: $132,977
Beverly Hills scored a spot in the top 10 despite having one of the smaller senior populations among the communities in the ranking.
7. Walnut Creek, California
Median household income: $130,432
About 30% of Walnut Creek residents are age 65 or older, which means retirees make up almost one-third of the city's population.
8. Kaneohe, Hawaii
Median household income: $125,613
Kaneohe was Hawaii's highest-ranked community in the study and reported a median household income above $125,000.
9. Pearl City, Hawaii
Median household income: $118,112
More than one-quarter of Pearl City residents are age 65 or older. The community helped Hawaii place two towns in the West Coast top 10.
10. Fair Oaks, California
Median household income: $116,975
Fair Oaks completed the West Coast top 10 with a median household income of nearly $117,000.

Methodology
This article uses data from our retirement town study. The study analyzed communities with populations above 15,000 where at least 25% of residents were age 65 or older. Communities were ranked using median household income and average retirement income for households receiving it.
