If you used the popular peer-to-peer payment app Cash App between August 23, 2018, and August 20, 2024, you may be qualified to file a claim in Cash App’s recent $15 million settlement. The settlement is the result of Cash App’s December 2021 data breach, and users could receive up to $2,500 each in compensation for unauthorized transactions, out-of-pocket expenses, and lost time. Here’s everything you need to know to submit a Cash App data breach settlement claim.

In two major data security incidents, Cash App users’ sensitive information was compromised. In 2021, a former employee downloaded user data without permission, and in 2023, accounts were accessed through recycled phone numbers. These events prompted a class-action lawsuit, alleging that Cash App’s security practices were insufficient. Eligible customers now have the chance to claim compensation for potential losses.

Users must submit their claims by November 18, 2024.

If you used Cash App or Cash App Investing between August 23, 2018, and August 20, 2024, and experienced unauthorized access, fraudulent transactions, or inadequate support, you may qualify to file a claim in this class-action settlement.

  1. Visit the Settlement Website: Go to cashappsecuritysettlement.com to begin the claim process.

  2. Gather Your Documents: For claims involving transaction losses or unauthorized access, you’ll need to provide supporting documents such as bank statements, correspondence with Cash App, or police reports.

  3. Submit by the Deadline: File your claim by November 18, 2024. Complete the form online, or print and mail it to the address provided on the website.

To file, eligible Cash App users can also contact the Settlement Administrator via phone at 1-866-615-9740 for questions or assistance with their claim.

These are the different categories you can site in your claim:

  • Out-of-Pocket Expenses: Covers costs like credit monitoring, identity theft insurance, and replacing compromised bank cards.

  • Lost Time: Compensation for the time spent addressing issues related to the breach, up to $25 per hour and maximum of three hours.

  • Transaction Losses: Covers unauthorized or fraudulent transactions, with the possibility to claim up to $2,500.

If you were a Cash App or Cash App Investing user between 2018 and 2024, this $15 million settlement offers you a chance to seek compensation for any issues or inconveniences tied to the data breaches. Use the simple online claims process – don’t forget to file before November 18, 2024 – for a chance to address any losses you had and be compensated accordingly.
