Hot Wheels: Cars That Perform Best in Warm Weather, According to Auto Experts

Warm weather is often easier on drivers and it can highlight the strengths (and weaknesses) of certain vehicles.
According to Chris Pyle, an auto expert with JustAnswer, most vehicles are tested in the best and worst conditions, with the most testing done in average temp weather. As such, engineers know when your vehicle is operating at optimum conditions. Surprise: it's fairly consistent across the thermometer, but that doesn't mean some vehicles aren't a better experience when the mercury rises.

"Now there are some cars that are more fun to drive when the weather is nice, like a sports car or a convertible, if that is your thing, but they will perform the same in cold and hot weather," he said. "A diesel will perform better in warm weather if you include engine start to the scenario. Diesels struggle to start in cold weather and they need a little more run time as they warm up before they operate at their best."
Below are three vehicles that experts say are preferable in warm weather.
Jeep Wrangler Convertible
Starting MSRP: $34,895
"Some cars are well-suited to warm weather because you can enjoy their features most," said Melanie Musson, auto industry expert with AutoInsurance.org.
"A Wrangler will get you where you need to go in a snowstorm, but it's arguably a lot more fun to ride over boulders with the top down on a summer afternoon," she said.
According to the brand, the Jeep Wrangler is America's best-selling open-air vehicle and it's also earned the Trail Rated badge. The 2026 model also comes with quick-release door hinges for more open-air freedom, plus a widebody frame and front and rear solid axles for off-road adventures.
Subaru Forester
Starting MSRP: $29,995
According to Musson, the Subaru Forester performs well in warm weather due to its engine cooling system.
"You will have little concern about overheating, even when driving hard in extreme heat," she said. "The AC system also maintains performance on the warmest days, providing the driver with relief from the heat."
The 2026 Subaru Forester comes in six trim levels and all are equipped with Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive (AWD). According to Subaru, the Forester Wilderness — the car's more rugged trim level — has 9.3 inches of ground clearance, plus reduced wheelspin when off-roading. All that, and this beast has a towing capacity of 3,500 pounds.
Toyota Camry
Starting MSRP: $29,100
"The Camry, along with the rest of Toyota's lineup, offers continuous climate control, which keeps the cabin at a continuous comfortable temperature so you don't have to adjust the fan and temperature," Musson said. The engine cooling system also performs well, even in extreme heat.
For the 2026 model year, the Toyota Camry comes with an all-hybrid power train and it's available with electronic on-demand AWD. If you plan to take a road trip over the summer, you won't have to fill up at the pump very often thanks to its 51 combined EPA-estimated mpg rating.
