Keep an Eye Out for These Coins That Could Soar in Value in 2027

Are you a coin collector? One of the top priorities for collectors is finding the right coins to add to their collection.

Coin collecting is a popular hobby and a great alternative investment. Whether you are a seasoned collector with a growing collection or a newcomer looking for your first coin, here are five coins to keep an eye out for now that could soar in value in 2027.

Double die coins can be worth significantly more than their face value. This occurs when the same side of the coin is printed twice, creating a shadow-like effect. The 1970-S Lincoln Cent is one example. Even rarer is the small date variety, in which the 7 in 1970 is smaller than the other numbers. If you find one of these coins, it could be worth around $3,500.

Any coin with a defect, such as an extra leaf or letter, can soar in value over the next few years. For example, the 2004-D Wisconsin State quarter with an extra leaf can retail for $200 to $300. Wisconsin quarters with leaf discrepancies are relatively easy to find in pocket change. Before you throw your quarters into a drawer, check for defects.

Pennies with the AM in America close together can be worth $5 to $25, depending on condition and year. Common dates with this known defect include 1998, 1999 and 2000. As pennies are phased out of production, the Lincoln cent with spacing differences may soar in value by 2027.

When the United States began producing the 1982 Roosevelt Dime, it sent the coins to each mint branch to add the proper mint mark. However, many mint marks are missing. Check the front of the coin for a D, S or P. If there is no mint mark, the dime can be worth $30 to $50.

Some people buy rolls of quarters from the bank and leave them sitting. If you happen to find an uncirculated roll of quarters, you might be able to get up to $50 per roll. While demand can vary, uncirculated quarters from Connecticut, Tennessee, Illinois, and Georgia are popular right now. Remember, the roll must be unopened, and the quarters must not have been used.

The coin collector market is always changing. As the years go on, coins can become rarer. If you happen to find any of the above coins, consider holding onto them over the next few years. By 2027, many of these coins will have increased in value.
