Costco and Sam's Club are the most frequented stores for savings on everyday items. While both retailers promise lower per-unit prices on many items, which one actually delivers more savings on items you buy every week?

A 12-pack of Kirkland Signature paper towels costs $23.99, averaging about $2 per roll. On the other hand, a 15-pack of Sam's Club's Member's Mark super premium paper towels goes for $24.98, roughly $1.66 per roll. Sam's Club offers more value since it beats Costco on total square footage.

At Costco, Kirkland Signature bath tissue costs $24.99 for a 30-roll pack totaling 1,425 square feet, about 1.75 cents per square foot. Sam's Club's Member's Mark bath tissue runs $24.76 for 45 rolls, but with fewer sheets per roll, totaling 1,254 square feet at 1.97 cents per square foot. Even with fewer rolls, Costco gives you more value for your money.

Kirkland Signature Ultra Clean HE liquid laundry detergent (194 fl. oz.) was $21.49, but with the current discount, you get it at $17.89. Member's Mark liquid laundry detergent (196 fl. oz.) is cheaper at $14.98. If you do multiple laundry loads every week, this difference could mean more savings down the road.

Costco charges $20.99 for 67.6 fl. oz organic extra virgin olive oil, while Member's Mark organic extra virgin olive oil in the same size comes in at $17.48. Sam’s Club is $3 cheaper. While the savings seem small, they usually add up to meaningful amounts.

Two dozen Kirkland pasture-raised grade A eggs at Costco cost $9.07, compared to $5.54 for 1.5 dozen eggs at Sam’s Club. For households that consume eggs a lot more, Sam’s Club can be cheaper than Costco, depending on how many cartons you buy.
