3 EVs With the Best Resale Values

As you search for an electric vehicle (EV), its future resale value might be the last thing on your mind. After all, you probably only plan to keep the vehicle for a few years.
However, purchasing an EV with strong resale value can help preserve your investment and make upgrading easier down the road. Here are three EVs that experts said have the best resale values.

Tesla Model 3
The Model 3 holds its value better than most EVs, and price is a big reason why. At around $37,000, it undercuts the Model Y ($40,000) and Model S ($87,000) by a wide margin. Plus, Tesla's frequent software updates keep older models feeling current instead of outdated.
“The Model 3 has demonstrated it consistently holds its value, even as most EVs depreciate rapidly,” said Melanie Musson, an auto industry expert with AutoInsurance.org. “After five years, it is still worth between 45% and 50% of its original value if it’s been well maintained and has average mileage.”
Part of that staying power comes down to convenience.
“Tesla has invested in a charging station network that makes it possible to use a Tesla like you would a gas-powered car," Musson said. "You can actually take a road trip. You can fill up if you forgot to plug in at home. That helps boost demand for used models and keeps resale prices high.”
Mini Cooper Electric
The Mini Cooper Electric borrows BMW's EV powertrain and iDrive infotainment system but skips the BMW price tag. That combination — premium tech, compact footprint, accessible cost — keeps demand for used models steady.
“The Mini Cooper Electric is built for commuters in high-traffic cities,” Musson said. “It performs well, navigates city streets well and fits into tight parking spaces."
That makes it a natural fit for urban buyers, which is a big part of why it loses less than half its original value after five years.
Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo
The Taycan Cross Turismo pairs Porsche's performance pedigree with actual cargo space — and Porsche builds far fewer of them than the standard Taycan sedan. That scarcity does a lot of the work here: Buyers pay a premium for a used Cross Turismo simply because there aren't many to go around.
“The Taycan Cross Turismo wagon retains its value better than the Taycan sedan, likely because the extra space is in high demand by buyers,” Musson said. “After five years, it will still have over half of its original value with average miles and good care.”
