Everyone is trying to make more money right now just to keep up with the breakneck rate at which costs seem to be going up. However, making money fast is a top priority for Gen Z as they are just starting out and have no financial foundation to battle rising rent, student loans and grocery bills.

This is why more young adults are looking for ways to make quick cash without committing to a second full‑time job. Fortunately, in 2026, there are more opportunities than ever to put some bigger chunks of change in your pocket, thanks to assists from AI tools and flexible online work.

The key isn’t just working harder, it’s also about working smarter with strategies that actually pay off fast. Here are a few sneaky (but effective) ways Gen Z can make quick cash, whether you need money this week or want to build a steady side income.

Many companies, from banks to clothing stores, pay their customers to help them drum up new business, and you can cash in on the opportunity. You can even use AI to help maximize this process, as those tools have completely changed the side hustle game.

"Word of mouth is the most powerful form of marketing and, as such, many businesses and retailers will pay you to share their services with loved ones," said consumer finance and budgeting expert Andrea Woroch, who is also a regular on-air contributor for "Good Morning America" and "Today."

"Just share your unique URL via text, email or social media to start earning when someone signs up through the link," she said. "For example, Sam's Club promises $20 instant savings if you get someone to buy a new membership, and they'll get a $20 e-gift card to use towards a new purchase."

Reselling is one of the easiest ways to make money fast with little upfront cost. People often donate things like clothes, toys and homeware, but if you are strapped, why give away what you can sell?

"Sell unwanted clothing at Poshmark, sell designer fashion at TheRealReal, sell old electronics on BuyMyTronics and sell old sporting gear at SidelineSwap," said Woroch. "You can even sell unwanted gift cards at sites like Cardpool.com for up to 92% of the value."

You can flip everything from thrift store finds or Facebook Marketplace deals. This way, you can buy low and sell high within days, or even sometimes hours.

Welcome to capitalism, where ownership is capital, and one of the simplest strategies is making money from things you already have. There will be things that you can't or won't sell, but that doesn't mean you can't make them pay just the same.

"Rent your car when it's not in use via Turo or GetAround," said Woroch. "Rent baby gear you no longer use to travelers via BabyQuip or rent your home for corporate or personal events via PeerSpace. But limit these rentals to no more than 14 days to avoid income tax implications."

Simply put, you don’t need to buy anything, as you just need to monetize your assets. Start with items you don’t use daily and go from there.

If you’re someone with a lot of thoughts, it’s time to monetize them. Many brands reward anyone willing to help them improve their products, services and operations, which gives you the chance to earn money in your spare time.

"Share your opinions by taking online surveys via sites like Inbox Dollars and participating in online focus groups through companies like Sago," said Woroch. "I earned a $150 gift card by reviewing a new travel promotion from a popular vacation club through this site."

You don’t need millions of followers to make money anymore. Even with a small following, you have money-making opportunities. Here are a few places to start:

  • TikTok Creator programs

  • Affiliate marketing links

  • Brand partnerships

  • YouTube monetization

In this age of all of your friends selling you something, micro‑creators are in demand, especially in niche communities. Focus on helpful, searchable content like “college hacks” or “budget lifestyle.”

If you need money right now, gig apps are still one of the fastest options. You could give food delivery a shot with Uber Eats or DoorDash, grocery deliver with Instacart or chore-based work with TaskRabbit.

One often-untapped gig to make money is to get paid by going to restaurants as a secret shopper. Just as brands pay for feedback in surveys and focus groups, stores and restaurants pay people to visit their locations undercover and report on their experience.

"Secret shoppers work for consumer research companies and provide valuable feedback about shopping experiences," said Melanie Musson, a finance expert with Expert Insurance Reviews. "Not only can you earn a little extra money, but you can also enjoy the experience, which could range from getting a free coffee to free groceries and occasionally maybe something bigger like furniture."
