Spending $100 usually results in equal outcomes at TJ Maxx and Marshalls, even though — because both retailers are owned by The TJX Companies, Inc. — there’s a lot of inventory overlap. Each store carries similar brands with products like shoes, beauty and apparel available at the same prices.

The trick to getting the most bang for your buck, however, is to shop strategically.

We did a price comparison with Marshalls and TJ Maxx on specific products to find out where $100 goes the furthest. As it turns out, most of the best bargains hide in plain sight at Marshalls.

Our first search was for a dress which could easily be worn during the spring and summer months. With this in mind, we kept our eyes peeled for a maxi dress and added “spaghetti straps” to differentiate among sleeve types.

The specificities of this search yielded a Terzo Millennio maxi dress ($39.99) at Marshalls and a similar Solitaire floral maxi dress ($59.99) at TJ Maxx. Both dresses are linen blend with a floral print, but the Terzo Millennio brand is $20 cheaper at Marshalls.

This leaves us $60 in our shopping balance — let’s see how much more we can save!

A comfortable floppy hat is a must-have accessory to pair with the maxi dress. To narrow the selection down even further, we looked for embellishments on said hats.

And while the savings aren’t as great as those shown with the maxi dress, shoppers save $3 getting a Sun N Sand oversized floppy hat ($16.99) at Marshalls compared to the Renato Balestra brand ($19.99) at TJ Maxx.

Marshalls’ jewelry department is where shoppers really start to see the most substantial deals compared to TJ Maxx.

True To Form’s gold plated hinge bracelet is $12.99. At TJ Maxx, a similarly styled gold bangle bracelet from Milor Gold retails for a whopping $209.99. A nearly $200 difference in price!

We have about $30 left in our budget so let’s see what other pieces of jewelry we can get for much less at Marshalls.

We decided to seek out gold hoop earrings (omnipresent in most jewelry departments) and struck gold once more with our finds. A pair of Lucia Mara gold plated hoops retails for $12.99 at Marshalls while a pair of gold polished Mia Fiore hoops costs $119.99 at TJ Maxx for $100+ in savings.

Not only did the overall savings at Marshalls stack up to the hundreds compared to TJ Maxx, but we only spent $82.96 to keep within the $100 limit. Enough left over to cover sales tax and still come in under a hundred!
