5 Human-Centered Jobs AI Won't Easily Replicate Even in the Next Decade

Artificial intelligence has made the job market more complicated, and there isn’t a universal agreement about how this technology will impact jobs in the long run.

According to Fortune, Jensen Huang believes AI will kill off tasks instead of jobs, while Bill Gates has predicted significant job cuts as AI evolves on his personal blog.

While it's true that AI can eliminate the pool of less-qualified applicants, it won’t replace industry experts. Still, some jobs are safer than others, especially these five AI-proof jobs.

Electricians manage and install electrical power in homes and buildings. It’s an essential service, and most people prefer to work with a professional instead of doing DIY electrical wiring, which can result in fatal electrocution.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) estimates electricians earn a median pay of $63,190 per year. You only need a high school diploma and must complete an apprentice program with a professional electrician. All electricians must also pass a state licensing exam.

The artificial intelligence buildout requires substantial amounts of electricity. Being an electrician for an AI data center can provide endless work opportunities and a much higher pay than the average electrician’s salary.

Healthcare is one of the few growing sectors, and that trend is expected to continue as boomers get older. The demand for registered nurses should continue to climb, but more nurses are leaving the field and it takes some time to get credentials. You must complete an accredited nursing program, pass the national licensing exam and apply for a state license to become a registered nurse.

The BLS estimates the median pay for a registered nurse is $97,550 per year. An influx of boomer patients can push wages higher, especially if retention remains an issue. While humanoid robots may assist with various tasks, they cannot provide the human care that a registered nurse can offer.

You can use AI to come up with a workout plan right now, but that doesn’t mean you will actually do it. Personal trainers force you to be accountable, and their knowledge of the human body can help you make better decisions for your health.

You will get a good workout and can ask questions to someone who has studied fitness for many years. The salaries for personal trainers vary considerably, with some working with clients after a regular 9-to-5 job. Some clients may continue to work with you for several years, and you get the fulfillment of seeing your clients progress toward their fitness goals.

Police officers will always be needed to maintain public order and enforce laws. Humanoid robots can make police officers’ lives easier and help with some tasks, but they won’t make officers obsolete. Police officers are too important for society to be replaced by AI.

The median pay is $77,310 per year for a police officer, according to BLS data. Police officers also tend to receive generous pensions that make it easier for them to keep up with expenses in retirement, especially with Social Security as an additional income source.

Social media managers earn an average salary of $82,000 per year, per Indeed, and some managers serve multiple clients to diversify their income streams. These professionals post on various companies’ social media accounts to attract potential customers.

While artificial intelligence has made it easier for companies to create their own content, it doesn’t substitute the need for social media managers. AI can craft a good social media strategy within seconds, but someone has to schedule the posts and implement that strategy.

Furthermore, the fact that AI can easily generate content doesn’t necessarily mean it is good content. "AI slop" has become a popularized term that captures how important it is for people to create brand content instead of companies relying on AI to generate social media posts and other content.

Social media will always be a popular resource for traffic and customer acquisition, and brands will likely continue to work with social media managers to capitalize on the opportunity.
