Spring break is in full swing for some and coming up fast for others. You can follow the crowd to South Beach and blow your savings in a few days, or be smart, stay home and boost your bank balance while helping your neighbors.

We asked ChatGPT for spring break side hustle suggestions. The generative AI went beyond sharing a list of side jobs to give tips for brainstorming your own ideas, too.

“Think: What problem exists this week because people are busy or away? Spring break creates temporary demand spikes and you’re stepping in to solve them,” it said.

Just because you’re choosing to be a savvy saver doesn’t mean other people aren’t traveling. Save them the high costs of boarding their dogs or cats while you earn cash for pet sitting.

Care.com lists average rates ranging from $13.50 an hour in San Antonio up to more than $23 an hour in Seattle. That’s for drop-in visits, but depending what’s entailed, ChatGPT suggested charging $40 to $80 per day pet sitting.

Best of all, you can stack clients to easily earn more than $1,000 during your break.

Spring cleaning can be overwhelming for older adults, parents with little kids, or really, anyone – especially if they have a lot of clutter they need to clear first. ChatGPT suggested rates of $25 to $40 per hour for these services.

If you have any experience organizing, including college dorms or your apartment, and photos as proof, you can command even higher rates. For instance, professional organizers charge an average of $65 an hour and as much as $200 an hour, according to Thumbtack.com. You want to come in below those prices, but it’s an indication that this can be a lucrative business once you gain some experience.

You can solve a major problem for working parents by taking care of their school-age children for them during spring break.

Don’t want to tie up every day of your break working 9-to-5 or even longer hours? Offer “date night” babysitting instead.

The average babysitting rate per hour is $26.24, according to UrbanSitter.com. You can charge more for additional kids or in high-cost-of-living areas. Babysitters in San Francisco earn more than $29 per hour.

ChatGPT suggested offering themed nights, such as movie night or game night. If the kids have fun, the parents may invite you back during the summer.

ChatGPT suggested yard work because there’s seasonal demand with no long-term commitment. After the winter many states have had, yards are looking pretty rough. You can clear debris and spread mulch to set the stage for a healthy lawn.

“Knock on doors in one neighborhood and stack jobs,” ChatGPT advised, noting that you can charge $50 to $150 per yard, depending on the region and the size of the yard.

Most cars are looking a little worse for the wear after the snowy season that extended through March in some areas.

“Car detailing … hits that seasonal reset energy and people will actually pay for it right now,” ChatGPT said.

Professional detailers charge $150 to $500 plus for full exterior and interior cleaning and detailing, according to HouseCallPro.com. If you’re still gaining experience, you can charge a bit less and still make bank.

Do one car a day for five days at $100, and you’ve earned $500, minus the cost of basic cleaning supplies (around $50, according to ChatGPT).
