Some of the country's wealthiest retirement communities are located on the West Coast. In several of these towns, median household incomes exceed $125,000 and retirees make up at least one-quarter of the population. But who's at the top?

Using data our most recent retirement town study, here's a look at the richest retirement towns on the West Coast in 2026.

  • California accounts for seven of the 10 richest retirement towns on the West Coast.

  • Saratoga, California, ranked as the richest retirement town in America for the second consecutive year.

  • Hawaii placed two communities in the top 10.

  • Bainbridge Island was the highest-ranked Washington community.

Median household income: $250,000

Saratoga retained its position as the richest retirement town in America. More than one-quarter of residents are age 65 or older.

Median household income: $179,623

Rancho Palos Verdes ranked fourth nationally and was one of only three West Coast communities with a median household income above $170,000.

Median household income: $172,188

Bainbridge Island was the highest-ranked Washington community in the study. More than 27% of residents are age 65 or older.

Median household income: $143,843

Laguna Beach combined a median household income above $143,000 with a senior population that exceeds 30% of residents.

Median household income: $135,439

Cerritos ranked 13th nationally and reported a median household income above $135,000.

Median household income: $132,977

Beverly Hills scored a spot in the top 10 despite having one of the smaller senior populations among the communities in the ranking.

Median household income: $130,432

About 30% of Walnut Creek residents are age 65 or older, which means retirees make up almost one-third of the city's population.

Median household income: $125,613

Kaneohe was Hawaii's highest-ranked community in the study and reported a median household income above $125,000.

Median household income: $118,112

More than one-quarter of Pearl City residents are age 65 or older. The community helped Hawaii place two towns in the West Coast top 10.

Median household income: $116,975

Fair Oaks completed the West Coast top 10 with a median household income of nearly $117,000.

California is home to seven of the 10 richest retirement towns on the West Coast. Hawaii has two communities on the list, while Washington has one.

Saratoga remained the richest retirement town in America for the second straight year, with a median household income of $250,000.

This article uses data from our retirement town study. The study analyzed communities with populations above 15,000 where at least 25% of residents were age 65 or older. Communities were ranked using median household income and average retirement income for households receiving it.
