Median household income was sourced from the U.S. Census American Community Survey. The cost of living indexes were sourced from Sperling's BestPlaces and include groceries, healthcare, housing, utilities, transportation and miscellaneous. Using the cost-of-living indexes and the national average expenditure costs, as sourced from the Bureau of Labor Statistics Consumer Expenditure Survey, the average expenditure cost for each location was calculated. The average mortgage was determined using Zillow Home Value Index for November 2025 and Federal Reserve Economic Data. Using the average mortgage and average expenditure costs, the average cost of living was calculated. The livability index was sourced from AreaVibes. The total cost of living was weighted at 2.00, the violent crime rate was weighted at 1.00, and the property crime rate was weighted at 1.00. All the scores were summed and sorted to show the safest and cheapest places to live in Wyoming. All data is up to date as of Jan. 9, 2026.
