How Shopping Experts Would Spend $20 at Sam's Club

OK, so you have a Sam’s Club membership and a $20 bill burning a hole in your pocket. What do you spend it on?

There are thousands of items to choose from at the Walmart-owned warehouse membership chain, but whittling them down to items $20 or under cuts the options considerably. The Sam’s Club website lists over a hundred everyday staples priced at less than $20. However, you should find plenty of other choices, as well.

This “tasty and affordable dinner option” is one of the best meal deals you’ll find at Sam’s Club, according to Melissa Cid, consumer savings expert for MySavings.com and a mother of four children.

You can get a whole rotisserie chicken for only $4.98, so if you’re hosting a large gathering, you can buy four of the birds for about $20.

“My family has it as a quick meal the first night, then turn the leftovers into sandwiches, salads, tacos, soups, and more throughout the week,” Cid told MoneyLion. “It’s a great value and one of those Sam’s Club staples that can easily stretch into multiple meals.”

Plenty of custom cake options are available at Sam’s Club, including sheet cakes, layer cakes, tiered cakes, cookie cakes, and cupcakes.

While prices vary, most single-layer cakes cost less than $20, according to Lauren Corona, a food writer and recipe taster who used to run a vegan pizza stall.

“There's a range of customization options, so there's something suitable for everything from kids' birthday parties to weddings,” Corona wrote in a blog for Mashed. “There are also custom character options, including the likes of Bluey and Hello Kitty, plus various styles of decoration, from fun to elegant.”

These pajama sets provide “great quality” for under $20, Cid said.

“They are made with soft modal fabric that fit loose, comfortable, and perfect for sleeping," she added. "They’re available in men’s and women’s sizes for just $15.98, while comparable pajamas at other stores can cost twice as much.”

Gift cards? Yes, gift cards. As Corona noted, you might not look at gift cards as a money-saving option when what you pay for the card usually equals its value. But there are exceptions.

“You can find some amazing discounts on gift cards at Sam's Club,” Corona wrote. “And, if you play your cards right (pun intended), you can end up saving on your everyday expenditure. You can save as much as 25% on gift cards, meaning a $20 gift card could cost as little as $15.”

Here’s another $20-or-under Sam’s Club item recommended by shopping experts.

“The Member’s Mark Ecoluxe 10-piece food storage set is a great buy at just $14.88,” Cid said. “With five stackable, leak-proof containers in different sizes, it’s perfect for leftovers, meal prep and everyday storage. They’re also microwave and dishwasher safe, making them easy to use and clean. Plus, they have such a classy, luxe look that people will think you paid three times the price you actually did.”
