Fresh Deals: Dollar Tree Bests Walmart on These 7 Spring Items

Try Them: 9 Unusual Ways To Make Extra Money (That Actually Work)

If you’re a shopper who likes to save money on each trip to the store and you’re determined to find good deals, Dollar Tree and Walmart are probably both regular stops. After all, it can be hard to beat the value from Walmart’s store brands and the everyday low prices at Dollar Tree.

Here’s a look at six spring items to check out at Dollar Tree before your next Walmart trip. They’re likely to save you money without sacrificing quality.

The Best Dollar Tree Bargains Shoppers are Finding Right Now

You can welcome spring in an affordable way with Dollar Tree. Grab a welcome mat or two for $1.50. It’s an affordable option that beats paying $4 or more for a similar mat at Walmart.

While you’re spring shopping at Dollar Tree, go ahead and snag some gardening gloves. While they run about $1.50 for basic gloves at Dollar Tree, you’ll likely pay around $4 to $8 for comparable ones of similar quality at Walmart, said Andrew Lokenauth, founder of the blog Fluent in Finance.

You may be looking for some affordable ways to have fun with the kids as spring turns to summer. Perhaps some sidewalk chalk is one answer. It’s about $1.75 at Dollar Tree, compared to $3 to $5 for a pack at Walmart.

Kids and adults of all ages enjoy bubbles outside during warm weather. Save yourself a little cash and pay $1.75 at Dollar Tree instead of $2 to $4 at Walmart.

If you’re lucky enough to live near a beach, hit Dollar Tree before the hot weather arrives to score some sizzling savings. For instance, you can find $1.75 beach toys that are just as likely to hold up for the spring and summer as the ones for $4 or more at Walmart.

According to Lokenauth, Dollar Tree wins on seasonal and disposable items.

“Things you use once or twice or items that don't need to last, are rarely worth paying Walmart's prices for,” he said. “For things that need to hold up over time, like a trowel or a garden hose, skip Dollar Tree. But for spring spruce-ups on a budget, doing a Dollar Tree run before your Walmart trip can save a family $20 to $40 on a single shopping list.”
