Discover a Dollar Tree retail location with shopping items displayed for sale outside on a sunny day

With the economy topsy-turvy, costs soaring and inflation out of control, you could probably use a break when it comes to shopping for everyday products. While Target might be your one stop for shopping, chances are you’ll probably spend more on the same items you could get for a fraction of the price at Dollar Tree.

MoneyLion tapped Elisabella Ricca, personal finance and consumer analyst at TopCashback, to see how a $200 cart from Target can be swapped out for a $25 checkout total at Dollar Tree.

According to Ricca, Dollar Tree can also be a great place to stock up on kitchen essentials, especially when shoppers compare the prices of similar items found at Target.

Dollar Tree sells a 6-cup muffin pan for only $1.25, Ricca pointed out. At Target, a comparable 6-count pan is $9.

Getting everything in your house in order shouldn’t have to be a mess when it comes to spending money. That’s exactly why Ricca advised shoppers to check out Dollar Tree for affordable ones.

“Dollar Tree offers many organization solutions at lower costs than Target,” Ricca pointed out, highlighting a collapsible storage container for $1.25. “At Target, a similar 11-inch fabric bin is $5 instead. That means buying 4 from Dollar Tree compared to Target saves you $15.”

If you have some birthdays, anniversaries or weddings on the horizon, Ricca recommended that you skip Target and head to Dollar Tree to save money on your gift bags.

"Gift bags are a great buy at Dollar Tree, and are much more affordable there than at Target. Dollar Tree gift bags cost $1.50,” explained Ricca, noting that Dollar Tree offers an array of sizes and designs for that price point, like the Voila Large Magical Birthday Gift Bags

At Target, some gift bags can cost as much as $6. “That $4.50 difference can equal huge savings when stocking up on the item,” Ricca went on to say. “For example, if you’re buying 10 bags, you could save up to $45.”

If you are already shopping for gifts and presents, why not stock up on greeting cards so you are prepared for any occasion. Just make sure you head to Dollar Tree instead of Target to get the best price for your budget.

“Greeting cards are an excellent product to stock up on at Dollar Tree as well,” shared Ricca, adding that most range from $0.50 to $1.50. “They even sell Hallmark-branded cards for the same affordable price.”

At Target, on the other hand, Ricca found that greeting cards can easily cost between $5 and $10, like this PAPYRUS birthday card that costs $8.50. “That means you can save between $3.50 and $9.50 per card," said Ricca. "If you buy 10 cards, that can save you anywhere from $35 to $95, just on greeting cards.”
